Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge provides numerous programs for children in our ten-parish area who are coping with a cancer diagnosis or the cancer diagnosis of a parent. There is no cost to our families for participation in any of our children's activities.

Our local Candlelighters program is for children who have cancer and their siblings and is designed for children from birth through age twenty-one. Monthly activities provide children and parents the opportunity to interact, provide mutual support, and participate in family activities in a safe, supportive environment.

Camp Care, our summer day camp for children with cancer and their siblings, is held for one week in July. Campers must be between the ages of 4 and 13 and enjoy varied activities, including fishing, rock climbing, laser tag, movies, and much more. An on-site nurse provides medical oversight, while the children have fun in a safe environment. Space is limited at Camp Care, so early registration is recommended.

Our Kids Kare program is for children between the ages of four and eighteen who have a parent or guardian with cancer. Monthly activities provide opportunities for interaction, parent to parent and child to child.

Our Art Expressions program is for Candlelighters and Kids Kare children in middle school (those who have completed 5th grade through those who have completed 8th grade). Registration is required for this program. Please call Colleen McEnany for more information.

Children with a cancer diagnosis are eligible for a Candlelighter Grant. These one-time $500 grants are income-dependent and are given to defray the costs associated with a cancer diagnosis.
